If you are anything like my family, restful sleep is no longer the norm. Being thrown into isolation at home with your entire family, day in day out, can really play with your mind.

Quality sleep is important for strong immunity and mental clarity, at any time, but particularly in times of stress. And if you’re not sleeping well, there’s a good chance your messy or cluttered bedroom could be partly to blame. Creating a space that is quiet, dark and decluttered is part of ensuring a great night’s sleep.

Things that go bump in the night
A messy, cluttered bedroom can be stressful, and even dangerous. If you have more clothes on the floor than your actual wardrobe, it’s time to pick them up. Not only will it create space in your room, and your mind, you’ll avoid tripping over them in the middle of the night.

Welcoming romance (and relaxation) in
A bedroom is for sleep, romance and dressing. Anything not related to these tasks does not belong here.

Take a look around your bedroom at the moment – what doesn’t belong there? You want to ensure that when you walk into your bedroom, your mind is not consumed with any unrelated objects other than for sleep (or romance <3).

This includes kids’ toys, gym gear, laptops, ironing board or craft projects. Store these items away neatly out of view and bring calm and relaxation back into your bedroom.

Your bedroom should be a serene sanctuary, so turn off the TV and your phone at least thirty minutes before it’s time for sleep. Instead of scrolling and tapping, consider a warm shower, a cup of herbal tea and enjoy some of that book you’ve been meaning to read.

Simple changes to your wind-down routine at night can make an incredible difference to your sleep, and how you feel the following day.
