Decorating your Christmas Table

Christmas is always a much-anticipated time for friends, family, and food!

To really celebrate Christmas Day and showcase your feast – decorating your table is an essential part of the day. This is one of the “to-do list” items you can prepare ahead, leaving time for the many other things you will no doubt have left to do for the BIG DAY!

Firstly – decide where you will be eating, if outdoors then the decorations will need different considerations from those if indoors.

I love an indoor table for a late Christmas Lunch, as it allows for candles (not melting in the heat) and décor which is not bothered by any wind or a change in the weather.

Start by selecting your colour palette (my favourite is blue and silver) and sourcing some bon-bons in these tones, with some coordinating table napkins. If you can only find white napkins – challenge your children to make some napkin rings from cardboard, tinsel, and ribbon.

If you like a tablecloth – then a few metres of fabric hemmed on the ends is an excellent choice for immediate impact without breaking the bank.

Think about what other decorations you would like to add – I love candles, mini baubles sprinkled along the table, or in mason jars (think $2 shop for both), coordinating fresh flowers from the garden in a vase to match, a sprinkling of chocolates wrapped in your colours is a lovely festive addition.

Using some family favourite silverware? Be sure to give everything a polish and bring out the glassware and crockery which you keep for “best”.

Enjoy making your table the hub of your celebration and importantly – take the time to connect with family and friends this festive season.
